The Comedy Spillage Resurgence: 10 Years Up, Sold Out, and Only the Beginning

Comedy Spillage sold out: Daniel Geneen, Sashalyn Medina, headliner Jay, host Shawn Cornelius, Mugga and Kenny Woo at Slate NYC on October 18.

“Ten years up and 6 years down. Come back around, sold out crowd. Comedy Spillage resurgence at Slate with 60 percent new audience members and this is only the beginning.”- Trevor Bonner

Some nights feel like a celebration. Others remind you why you started gathering people in the first place. On Sunday, October 18, 2026, Comedy Spillage had both: a sold-out anniversary room at Slate NYC, familiar faces returning, and plenty of new ones joining the crowd.

For me, that’s what the resurgence means. It’s a story about returning to a room with history, rebuilding a night people want to share, and making space for the next chapter.

Ten Years At Slate

Comedy Spillage has been at Slate NYC, 54 West 21st Street, since 2010. A decade in one venue means more than knowing the address. It means a place where comedians, audiences, friends, and supporters have come together over the years to make a night of it.

A comedy room comes alive through the people in it. The performer brings their point of view; the audience brings its reactions, its timing, its own energy. When everyone meets in the same space, the show becomes a shared experience that can’t quite be repeated.

Slate has been home to that experience for Comedy Spillage. And when we returned there for the 10 Year Anniversary & Libra Birthday show, we were celebrating more than a date on a flyer. We were celebrating the people who helped make those years matter, and welcoming new people into the room.

Six Years Down, A Restart Behind Us

“6 years down” in Trevor’s statement refers to six years since Comedy Spillage restarted. Coming back after a break meant starting again: reconnecting with the idea, rebuilding the night, and inviting people to show up with us.

A restart isn’t a rewind. It’s a chance to carry what matters forward while making room for new energy. We wanted Comedy Spillage to continue bringing people together through comedy, celebration, and a good night out in New York.

That invitation was especially meaningful on October 18. About 60% of the audience were first-time attendees, according to Trevor’s own figure. People who had never been to a Comedy Spillage show were sharing the room with people who remembered its earlier years.

Friends laughing together at a live comedy show

That mix of first-timers and returning guests says something important to me. The story belongs to everyone who comes through the door, not only the people who were there at the start. Each new audience brings its own presence, and each familiar face helps make the gathering feel connected.

A Sold-Out Room, From Show To After-Party

The anniversary show sold out. Doors opened at 5 PM, the comedy ran from 6:30 to 8 PM, and the evening continued with an after-party from 8 to 10:30 PM.

Comedian Jay headlines. Shawn Cornelius hosted, with features Mugga and Kenny Woo, and openers Sashalyn Medina and Daniel Geneen. After the show, DJ Xcel kept the celebration moving for everyone who stayed.

The night was also video taped. That added another layer to a room already full of people experiencing a milestone together: live jokes, shared reactions, and the kind of moments that happen when performers and audience meet in real time.

Then came the shift from show to after-party. DJ Xcel brought the music as guests had time to mingle, talk, and keep enjoying the evening. Comedy and nightlife aren’t separate parts of the experience for us; they can be two welcoming chapters of the same night.

That’s one reason I like creating events with a little room to stay, connect, and enjoy what comes next. Bring your friends, come on your own, or make it a group night out: the point is to have a place where people can share the moment.

A Moment Of Citywide Recognition

The anniversary also received a little extra attention around New York. Time Out New York listed the show at #6 in “Best things to do in NYC this week,” in its October 13 roundup edited by Rachel Askinasi. You can find Time Out New York’s Comedy Spillage listing.

That recognition was a welcome nod, but the heart of the night was still in the room: performers doing their sets, an audience laughing together, and new people experiencing Comedy Spillage for the first time. Press attention is lovely. The connection between the stage and the crowd is what I hope people carry with them.

“This Is Only The Beginning”

For me, “this is only the beginning” doesn’t mean promising exactly what comes next. It means keeping the door open and continuing to make thoughtful, welcoming NYC comedy events worth showing up for.

We’ll keep bringing people together through live comedy, celebration, and social experiences. If you’re looking for live comedy NYC, exploring New York comedy shows, or planning your next NYC nightlife event, I’d love for you to join us at a future Comedy Spillage night.

I produce these gatherings with Bonnerfied Entertainment and CSF Enterprises because I believe a good event can make it easier to connect. You get a clear plan for the evening, a room to laugh in, and the chance to share the experience with the people you bring, or the people you meet there.

Join Us At The Next Show

Comedy Spillage has spent ten years at Slate, restarted six years ago, and celebrated a sold-out anniversary with a crowd that was about 60% first-timers. That is a meaningful chapter, and a lovely reason to keep looking ahead.

I bring people together through comedy, nightlife, and curated entertainment in New York. I’d be happy to welcome you at the next one.

Real people. Real laughs. Good vibes.
